Mariupol

The dance piece "Mariupol" was created by Vladyslav during the early months of the war in Ukraine. It is part of the "SUPPORT THE ARTISTS OF UKRAINE" initiative organized by Company E from Washington, under the artistic direction of Paul Gordon Emerson and Kathryn Sydell Pilkington.

Vladyslav developed this work in an underground studio, amidst the sounds of air raid sirens and passing rockets. The piece is dedicated to Mariupol, a city that endured a blockade for over 80 days, cut off from light, food, and water. Following intense bombardments, the city was left in ruins.

Vladyslav interviewed people who had lived through the blockade and occupation in Mariupol and other Ukrainian cities. These real-life stories served as the foundation and inspiration for "Mariupol."
