Vladyslav Detiuchenko is an artist, dancer and teacher from Ukraine with a deep passion for dance. He graduated from the Kyiv National University of Culture and Arts and wholeheartedly dedicates himself to these forms of art.
From 2017 to 2022, he worked as a principal dancer at Kyiv Modern Ballet. Detiuchenko has over seven years of experience in choreography and directing, a decade of experience in the dance field, and three years of experience as the artistic director of n’Era Dance Company.
On February 24, 2022, Vladyslav’s life changed dramatically when the Russian Federation launched a deliberate and sustained aggression against Ukraine. This event profoundly impacted his views on the significance and role of art in the world. Vladyslav believes that art is a powerful force that can alter people’s opinions and emotions. He asserts that those who wield this force should use it to make the world a better place.
Forced to leave his home due to the war, Vladyslav relocated to the Netherlands, where he was a member of the United Ukrainian Ballet from 2022 to 2024. In March 2022, he organized the charity event "Light in Darkness" to support Ukraine, alongside Veronika Rakitina and the Dutch theatre Korzo. His projects span a diverse range of platforms, including choreography for Eurovision 2023, the Nederlands Dansdagen festival, De Parade festival, as well as participation in the International Dance Film Festival Amsterdam Cinedans, and more. Vladyslav is currently collaborating with former prima ballerina of the Dutch National Ballet, Igone de Jongh. He has created a few dance pieces for her, which were showcased at the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam. Vladyslav has also collaborated with renowned Dutch photographers Casper Faassen and Rahi Rezvani. In 2023, he taught masterclasses at the summer intensive program De Dutch Don’t Dance Division. In 2024, Vladyslav created the dance piece "Stand by Me," which premiered at the international platform for young choreographers, "Noverre," at The Stuttgart Ballet. Together with Veronika Rakitina, he was nominated for the Piket Art Prizes (Piket Kunstprijzen) for his significant contribution to the cultural life of The Hague.
V I S I O N
I use the art of choreography as a powerful tool of communication, capable of evoking emotions and encouraging the audience to look beneath the surface. In my work, I explore themes of freedom and identity, delving into the depths of human existence in both its outward manifestations and inner world.
The life experience I gained during the war in Ukraine has significantly influenced my creative signature and emotional depth, which I infuse into my new works. My choreography aims to resonate with the audience by using metaphors and associations to provoke dialogue on important global issues.
Thanks to my extensive practice in acrobatics, I integrate reimagined acrobatic elements into my dance arsenal, transforming them into expressive instruments. I find inspiration in real stories, people, films, and the surrounding environment. Much in this world stimulates me to create movement and composition. In collaboration, openness, trust, and a willingness to take risks for the sake of genuine artistry are especially important to me.
