Rhythms of resilience - dance with daily risk

24 February 2022 forever divided the lives of Ukrainians into before and after. The Russian Federation insidiously, without declaring war, began a deliberate and steady aggression against Ukraine.

As a part of Virtual Residence on Nederlandse Dansdagen, Vladyslav Detiuchenko contributed with the remote creation of a short dance film during wartime. The film “Rhythms of Resilience – dance with daily risk” is the result of this endeavor.

It is an experimental and documentary film inspired by the real story,

emotions, and experiences of the professional Ukrainian dancers

Kateryna Kurman and Volodymyr Marchuk, who continue their professional activities in Ukraine, even in the midst of war.

Every member of the film’s team lives in Ukraine, Vladyslav himself in the Netherlands, using digital technologies as a tool for directing the creative process and communicating with the creative team.

”How is it to be a dancer in a country at war?” – This is the main question that the film tries to answer. It explores the lives, struggles and dreams of a young dancers who refuse to give up their passion despite the violence and chaos around them.
