Consiousness(Sub)
"Consciousness(Sub)" is a creative exploration of the interplay between the conscious and subconscious mind, expressed through movement, dance, and physical theater. This work draws inspiration from Freud’s structural model of the psyche, where the ‘Ego’ mediates between the primal urges of the ‘Id’ and the moral constraints of the ‘Super-Ego’. It examines the tension between immediate gratification and ethical principles.
The piece features a male duet that illustrates the interaction between two facets of the mind, communicating and confronting each other. It explores the challenge of distinguishing between instinctive impulses and higher moral aspirations. Through this, the work delves into themes of self-discovery and self-acceptance within both personal and social realms.
It poses questions about the pressures to meet others' expectations at the expense of our own needs and desires. What do we truly want? How do our needs shape our identity?
